We celebrate over four decades of Laurent Garnier’s influential legacy in a single night – one that may well mark his final appearance in Munich, as he has shared that he’s considering stepping away from touring very soon. Joining him is the world-versed and uncompromising Paquita Gordon.
It’s only fair that the French tastemaker’s œuvre has been extensively documented and discussed, given its lasting impact and his ability to continually reinvent himself. From his start within the UK’s Acid House wave and the Hacienda in the 1980s, back to Paris and putting Rex Club on the map, the founding of his label F Communications, to jazz-influenced productions, radio shows, books, soundtracks and many formats in between – Laurent Garnier has helped shape the development of dance music in more ways than one. Can that be captured in a single party? Hardly. What remains is a deeply eclectic artist with a broad musical sensibility. A selector with decades of experience to draw from. And above all: someone with an enduring passion for making people dance – regardless of sound or setting.
Does this cast a shadow over the rest of the night’s programme? Not with Paquita Gordon on the bill. The cosmopolitan selector’s kaleidoscopic vinyl sets know only one limitation: the last groove on the wax. A charismatic presence and Blitz regular, she steers clear of public self-staging – but whether she’s exploring genre margins, familiar terrain, or loose, party-minded House, her sets always come with depth and passion.
