Among the current scene’s most intriguing producers and DJs, Verraco has long moved beyond his reputation as one of Latin America’s dance music prodigies as the world catches up with his talent. Unafraid to question or directly challenge Western, Anglo-American and Eurocentric perceptions of Latin dance music, he crafts vivid sonic pictures of grooves in bright, bold colours, drawing on Techno and IDM, Latin-inflected Tribal, (Hyper-)Electronica, Dembow rhythms and boisterous breaks. Much like the Iberian verraco monuments — the granite megalithic boars — his music is grand and powerful, articulated and sculpted with refined precision, yet nimble, favouring adventurous dramaturgies. Releasing music on labels ranging from XL and Timedance to VOAM might be a headline for many, but in Verraco’s expansive musical cosmos, these remain footnotes that underscore his discerning appeal, while his own TraTraTrax label has become a key platform for showcasing Latinx talent in recent years. Sally C and our resident 600-Cell guarantee further finely-tuned grooves. While Sally C has developed a trademark sound spanning vintage and hip-house via Acid and Breaks with a characteristic, raw and beefy groove — hence her own imprint, Big Saldo’s Chunkers — she has also recently been exploring sensual tech-house. Much more than an all-rounder, 600-Cell is a musical polyglot, with a penchant for overlooked gems of the past, able to dig deep and capture the unique idioms of whatever musical territory he enters — all supported by a delicate understanding of the ebb and flow of the dancefloor.
