A luminary of dance music finally returns to Munich for his Blitz debut: Ricardo Villalobos. There’s not much that hasn’t already been said about the German–Chilean Minimal visionary and dedicated sound purist. His studio productions—both originals and remixes—are considered groundbreaking, spanning releases labels such as Perlon and Playhouse as well as avant-garde jazz imprints like ECM, alongside seemingly endless sets respected affiliations and residencies at clubs including Robert Johnson, Fabric, Amnesia and many more. Yet one thing has been missing from his extensive CV: Blitz Club.
Longtime companion Vera joins him on the programme. Growing up in Heidelberg while being enchanted by the dancefloors in and around Frankfurt in the ’90s, she got to know Ricardo during one of her gigs in Mannheim, before experiencing a whole Ibiza season with a Villalobos residency. Ricardo became an important mentor and collaboration partner for Vera, who has long occupied a firm spot within dance music’s underground, marked by acclaimed residencies and label releases, as well as running her own label, Melliflow.
Time and experience have shaped her skills and repertoire, but for Vera, a good DJ isn’t just about technical proficiency or track selection: >I really believe one of the most important things in DJing is empathy—having a feeling for a situation and being able to feel the people who are on the dance floor.
