Thinking about 2manydjs, we can surely say that two undisputed electronic music icons will take a step onto our magic island. The foundation of their musical heritage is given by their Belgian band Soulwax, an outfit with enormous head banging potential, a placement within the British charts as well as a touch schedule around the entire globe and back. Their birth as DJs draws back to the start of the millennium, when the two brothers David and Stephen Dewaele started their Hang The DJ Radio Show on national broadcast in Belgium. This show was already a close up to their attitude when it comes to performing. In a rascalesque way of not adhering to any given conventions, 2manydjs simply eradicated the word genre form every dictionary and re-invented the art of bootlegging. Anything goes… like really! From smooth Funk, cracking Techno or dancefloor approved Pop. The most important thing, it has to kick big time and take the swearing crowd way beyond the edge. What’s most important about all this, apart from this total high energy approach both Dewaeles always know exactly to differentiate in between what’s cool and what’s simply not. Their vast knowledge of everything, from the most well know releases to the rarest and most secret gems might be comparable to Discogs. In recent years the two have also set a new benchmark when it comes to extraordinary tales in clubland with their mobile club installation Despacio which was created in cooperation with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy. The second duo of the night is given by our good friends Marvin and Valentino from Public Possession, who relentlessy make waves, be it as DJs, label heads, record store dealers or fashion gurus.
Mit 2ManyDJs schiffen wir zwei unbestrittene Ikonen auf die Museumsinsel. Das Fundament für ihr musikalisches Vermächtnis, legten die Dewaele-Brüder als Antriebskräfte der Belgischen Band Soulwax, mit exorbitantem Head-Banger-Faktor, dem Einstieg in die britischen Charts und einer mindestens halben Weltumrundung. Ihre Geburtsstunde als Plattendreher, feierten David und Stephen dann kurz vor der Jahrtausendwende mit ihrer Hang The DJ Radio Show im nationalen, belgischen Hörfunk. Dort machten sie genau das, was sie künftig auszeichnen wird. Geführt von einem charmanten Spitzbubentum, bricht das Gespann Konventionen, lässt das Wort Genre aus sämtlichen Vokabularen verschwinden und erfindet das Bootlegging neu. Alles was gefällt, kommt in den Mix. Ob smoother Funk, schnalzender Techno oder Dancefloor-qualifizierter Pop. Hauptsache es knallt, sitzt und treibt die schwitzende Menge knapp vor die Ohnmacht. Der springende Punkt: bei allem Party-Movement, wissen die Dewaeles haargenau was sie tun und verfügen über ein musikalisches Knowledge, das Discogs alt aussehen lässt. Mit ihrer mobilen Clubinstallation Despacio, in Zusammenarbeit mit James Murphy von LCD Soundsystem, haben sie darüber hinaus, so finden zumindest wir, ein stückweit extravagante Clubgeschichte geschrieben. Das zweite Duo der Nacht sind unsere Public Possession Compagnions aka Marvin und Valentino, die egal ob als DJs, Label Heads, Plattenladenbetreiber oder Fashion Gurus durchweg ins Schwarze treffen.
