In a world where, for all the good reasons, DJing is the predominant form of performing electronic dance music in front of a crowd, we take a bow to everyone who plays club music live. As in: The traditional form of performing music, producing and arranging each sound on the fly, live on stage. Electronic musicians are faced with special concerns when playing live: how does one „play“ machines, instruments that were barely conceived to play live the music that relies on production and editing processes in music studios and less on real time physical interaction between instrument and artist? Each performer finds their very own and unique answers to this approach, and that’s what makes Live sets so interesting to us.

You’ll find out why it’s no coincidence he’s considered to be among the very best live performers of our scene. He combines the best of both worlds. He’s a skilled musician who bridges the gap between DJing and manipulating prerecorded samples & music, as well as playing live by creating sounds & musical forms on the fly, maximizing the sonic and structural possibilities of both respective approaches with the live-wire authenticity of a performing machine running at full steam. Now and then, his sets even end up involving the crowd bashing out sounds on his machines, too! Strahil Velchev is an experience you don’t want to miss.
Sharing the bill with KiNK tonight is the UK-techno-veteran Surgeon who is also well known for his live sets. This time, he opted for a DJ-set, though. Anthony Child is no-one for quick, unreflected decisions, so can can expect Anthony Child to use the full potential of this approach. Without a doubt, he’s one of the most important figures of the British Techno scene, responsible for creating what is known as the „Birmingham Sound“. However, a creative mind never rests on its past achievements and you can expect a wide range of state-of-the-art techno ranging from atmospheric, raw, organic, abstract to funky grooves, hand-picked and delivered by a true master of his craft.
It takes a DJ with great understanding of style and dynamics to open an evening with two international heavyweights on the program in style. Our man Sascha Sibler is well versed in house and techno and all the fine intersections in between to get you in the right mood from the very first minute we open the doors.

Künstler*innen, die sich auf elektronische Musik konzentrieren, stehen beim Live-Spiel dabei vor besonderen Problemen: Wie werden Maschinen „gespielt“? Die Instrumente wurden selten für Live-Sets konzipiert, und die Musik baut auf Produktions- und Bearbeitungsprozesse in Musikstudios und weniger auf die physische Interaktion zwischen Instrument und Künstler in Echtzeit. Alle Künstler*innen finden darauf ihre ganz individuellen und einzigartigen Antworten, und das macht das Konzept von Live-Sets so interessant für uns.

KiNK LIVE Sets und Performances hauchen House-Musik neues Leben ein. Ihr werdet die Motive und musikalische Form wiedererkennen, aber wartet nur, bis ihr die Kraft seiner Herangehensweise und Darbietung spürt! Er gilt nicht ohne Grund als einer der besten Live-Performer unserer Szene. Er ist ein erfahrener Musiker, der die Lücke zwischen DJing und der Manipulation von voraufgezeichneten Samples & Musik als dem traditionellen Live-Spielen schließt, indem er Sounds und musikalische Formen in Echtzeit erzeugt. Er kombiniert und maximiert die klanglichen und strukturellen Potenziale beider Ansätze mit dem berauschenden Sturm & Drang einer auf Hochtouren laufenden Live-Performance. Seine Sets enden bisweilen sogar damit, dass er das Publikum in seine Show einbindet! Strahil Velchev Auftritte sind wahrlich eine Erfahrung, die sich niemand entgehen lassen sollte.
Surgeon, der britische Techno-Veteran, ist ebenfalls für seine Live-Sets bekannt, hat sich dieses Mal aber für ein DJ-Set entschieden. Von Anthony Child kann man erwarten, dass er das Beste aus diesem Ansatz herausholt, denn er ist niemand, der unreflektierte Entscheidungen trifft. Zweifellos ist er eine der wichtigsten Figuren der britischen Techno-Szene, die den so genannten “Birmingham Sound” geprägt hat. Aber wahre kreative Geister ruhen sich nicht auf ihren vergangenen Erfolgen aus. Stellt euch auf eine breite Auswahl zeitgenössischer Techno-Sounds ein, die gleichermaßen atmosphärisch, rau, organisch, abstrakt und funky sein können, meisterlich ausgewählt und verarbeitet.
Es braucht einen DJ mit großem Verständnis für die Feinheiten von Stil und Dynamik, um einen Abend mit zwei internationalen Schwergewichten im Programm stimmungsvoll zu eröffnen.
