We take a short trip through House music’s rich past tonight, with not only one of House music’s brightest and most influential figures, Chez Damier, but also the Swiss Minimal-Tech-House Stalwart Sonja Moonear and our two residents Sedef Adasi and vince, showcasing contemporary approaches to the soulful sound. 

The Music Institute in Detroit, Kevin Saunderson’s KMS label and studio or the Prescription imprint – take these three institutions alone and you’ll be busy for studying all night. Chez Damier, one of House music’s seminal personalities, has been a driving figure in all three ventures. From founding the iconic Detroit club that played a pivotal role in the development of Techno, his work as an artist and label manager of the KMS label, or the legendary run of singles he released with Ron Trent on his own Prescription label, it’s fair to say Chez Damier has written Dance music history. After an extended break from music at the start of the millennium, he returned to the scene, with new productions and a new label – and loads of curiosity in discovering more of the music that moves people. Chez Damier plays timeless House, with heart and soul – his fruitful endeavours and his long break prove he’s not one for half measures! 

Fast forward a few years from where Chez Damier started and you’ll discover Sonja Moonear from Geneva, one of Minimal-Tech-House vital artists. She keeps it lean & sexy and lets her selections do the talking. Keeping promotion and productions to a minimum, her rise to fame was built on consistent and quality DJ-Sets. The popularity of Minimal Techhouse may have waned over the years, but Sonja Moonear remains at the top of a wave of artists that still prove the genre’s vitality. And our two residents vince and Sedef Adasi show you how House music can be done today – schooled by the soul and funk of the Chicago sound, our two versatile selectors travel and combine myriads of genres for a truly contemporary dance music sound and grooving delights.

Man kann mit Fug und Recht behaupten, dass Chez Damier zu den federführenden Figuren der House-Musik-Szene gehört. Als treibendes Mitglied sowohl des Music Institutes in Detroit, Kevin Saundersons KMS-Label und -Studio oder des Prescription-Labels, das er mit Ron Trent gemeinsam gründete – drei zentralen Institutionen in der Tanzmusikgeschichte –  hat Chez Darmier regelrecht Tanzmusikgeschichte geschrieben. Nach einer längeren Musikpause Anfang der 00er Jahre, kehrte er mit neuem Label und neuen Produktionen sowie einer wiedergewonnenen Neugierde für die Musik und die Menschen, die sie bewegt, in die Szene zurück. Chez Darmiers erfolgreichen und stetigen Bemühungen und sein zeitloser und leidenschaftlicher House sind Beweis, dass er keine halben Sachen macht. 

Ein paar Jahrzehnte später entdeckt man Sonja Moonear auf dem Pfad, den Chez Damier pflasterte. Die Künstlerin aus Genf zählt zu den Schlüsselpersonen des Minimal-Tech-House, deren Ruhm an erster Stelle ihrem konsistenten und qualitativ hochwertigen Sets zu verdanken ist, indem sie ihre Promotion und Produktion auf ein Minimum reduziert und stattdessen mit Grazilität und Anmut ihre Selektionen für sich sprechen lässt. Auch wenn die Popularität des Genres im Laufe der Jahre abflaute, steht Sonja Moonear an vorderster Front mit einer Reihe an Künstler*innen, die das Genre mit Vitalität und Zeitgeist füllen. 

Um den Abend zu vollenden, loten unsere Residents vince und Sedef Adasi die Grenzen der House-Musik mit ihren reichhaltigen und kontemporären Ansätzen an das Genre aus. Geschult durch den Soul und Funk des Chicago-Sounds, erkunden und kombinieren unsere beiden vielseitigen Selektoren unzählige Genres zu einem zeitgenössischen Dance-Music-Sound und groovenden Vergnügen.
