> The whole idea of techno was that it was the future of music. < Carl Craig, a central figure of Detroit’s second wave, has always been committed to that vision. Through countless productions and his Planet E imprint, home to releases from Moodymann, Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin and many more, he has helped shape the language of dance music. Yet for Craig, techno has never been a closed circuit: it has led him into jazz, classical collaborations, sound art and beyond. If the future is open, why should techno be confined to one sound?
But futurism is only part of the story. For Craig, it’s also about soul and space – about the tension between sound and silence: > It’s not about the notes you play but the notes you don’t play. The thing that’s carrying it is the hi-hat and the low bass. That is really techno to me. < Whatever direction Craig takes in the Blitz booth, one thing remains: his sets are about the soulful grooves of a better future.
Joining the visionary Detroiter is our resident Kareem El Morr, co-founder of the roots.audio label. The Munich artist crafts precise, contemporary techno, marked by an acquired sense of unfolding dramaturgy and detail, while Mancunian selector Willow serves breezy and dubby Minimal-House cuts with a penchant for broken beats.

Durch unzählige Produktionen und sein Label Planet E, Heimat von Künstlern wie Moodymann, Kevin Saunderson oder Kenny Larkin, hat er das Vokabular elektronischer Tanzmusik entscheidend mitgeprägt.
Doch für Craig war Techno nie ein geschlossenes System: es führte ihn in Jazz, klassische Kompositionen, Klangkunst und darüber hinaus. Wenn die Zukunft offen ist – warum sollte Techno sich auf einen Sound beschränken? Futurismus ist dabei nur eine Seite.
