Roman Flügel
Roman Flügel and Gerd Janson are, each in their own right, respected pillars of the German dance music scene, with close ties to the Rhine-Main area and long-standing connections to one another. Flügel has released on Janson’s prestigious imprint Running Back, whose motto, > Guilty Feet Have No Rhythm <, could easily apply to both of their CVs.
While Janson has released a wide range of artists on the label, from seasoned veterans to emerging talents, and has remixed everyone from the Pet Shop Boys and The Chemical Brothers to Metronomy and Christine and the Queens, the ever-shape-shifting Roman Flügel remains defined by one constant: change. His DJ sets are wild cards, underlined by an extensive and eclectic catalogue of releases.
Gerd Janson’s selections, meanwhile, tend towards the sweet spot of House and Disco, framed by a deep and far-reaching musical knowledge. His first steps in dance music were taken as a music journalist, and with Roman Flügel’s having a degree in musicology their backgrounds open up a broader question: does music need to be understood in order to be felt? The two esteemed selectors – both among the most charismatic yet grounded figures in dance music – are ready to explore this timeless question from our booth, with a very special back to back.
Rosa Red, meanwhile, represents a fresh and upcoming voice within the scene, drawing on a broad creative background. From graphic design to a rich musical past playing in bands, the former Münchnerin has since found a home on Permanent Vacation for her first three EP releases. Her sound gravitates towards uplifting House, tracing its connections and sentiments across a range of adjacent genres.

Roman Flügel und Gerd Janson sind jeweils für sich feste Größen der deutschen Szene, mit enger Verbindung zum Rhein-Main-Gebiet und einer langjährigen gemeinsamen Geschichte. Flügel veröffentlichte unter anderem auf Jansons renommiertem Label Running Back, dessen Motto > Guilty Feet Have No Rhythm < ebenso gut auf die Lebensläufe beider zutreffen könnte.
Während Janson auf dem Label eine große Bandbreite an Künstler*innen veröffentlicht hat – von etablierten Veteranen bis hin zu aufstrebenden Talenten – und Remixe für Acts wie die Pet Shop Boys, The Chemical Brothers, Metronomy oder Christine and the Queens beisteuerte, bleibt der sich stetig wandelnde Roman Flügel durch eine Konstante geprägt: Veränderung. Seine ersten Schritte in der Welt der (Dance-)Musik machte er als Musikjournalist, und mit Roman Flügels musikwissenschaftlichen Background stellt sich unweigerlich eine grundsätzliche Frage: Muss Musik verstanden werden, um sie fühlen zu können? Die beiden renommierten DJs – beide zugleich charismatisch und geerdet – widmen sich dieser zeitlosen Frage aus unserem Booth, in einem ganz besonderen Back-to-Back-Set.
Rosa Red steht derweil für eine frische, aufstrebende Stimme innerhalb der Szene und schöpft aus einem breit gefächerten kreativen Hintergrund. Von Grafikdesign bis hin zu einer umfangreichen musikalischen Vergangenheit in Bands hat die ehemalige Münchnerin mit ihren ersten drei EP-Veröffentlichungen auf Permanent Vacation inzwischen ein neues Zuhause gefunden. Ihr Sound bewegt sich in Richtung uplifting House und verfolgt dessen Verbindungen und Stimmungen über eine Vielzahl angrenzender Genres hinweg.
