Active since the late 80s and still going strong, the ever-inspired British Techno pioneer Luke Slater keeps busy with a myriad of projects (from aliases such as Clementine, L.B. Dub Corp, LSD, and Planetary Assault Systems to his label Mote-Evolver) each serving as an outlet to channel his many musical inspirations through conceptually cohesive approaches. Yet he remains best known as Luke Slater himself, and for the sleek and classic – as in classicist, not conservative! – Techno he spins and produces, a sound that made him the first non-German artist to release on the prestigious Ostgut Ton.
This February, he goes back-to-back with Grace Dahl, one of Techno’s up-and-coming figures. Possibly baptised by the sound of a kick drum – with her Hungarian and Finnish parents involved in the 90s rave scene – the Vault Sessions resident has also founded her own label, Serial Disc Touchers, and draws on propulsive, contemporary Techno with hard-groove influences.

McKenzie, meanwhile, makes her Blitz debut. The Tbilisi-based, US-born selector – and dancer! – looks back on numerous appearances at Georgian institutions such as KHIDI and Bude, presenting a drashing and expansive take on Techno that moves fluidly through Trance, drum & bass, House, and beyond.

> Compare it to a good wine that needs time to age, or a football team that needs to grow together, < said Dario once of the Zenker Brothers’ imprint Ilian Tape — but the same holds true for the fraternal groove machine he and his brother Marco have been operating for years. This well-oiled family business thrives on rhythm, spanning Techno, Breakbeat, Bass, and beyond, schooled by and deeply rooted in lineages stretching from Hip-Hop to Dub and Detroit.
