Thomas Franzmann, better known as Zip, is the co-founder of Perlon, one of minimal dance music’s most respected and influential imprints, alongside Markus Nikolai. Associated with artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Baby Ford, Cassy, Margaret Dygas, Thomas Melchior and Dimbiman (one of ZIP’s aliases), the label’s output is defined not only by its essential & experimental leaning sound but also by its iconic artwork and strictly physical release strategy.
Needless to say, ZIP is a formidable selector in his own right. There are few mixes to be found online – and no official social media presence or press kit – making his rare DJ appearances all the more essential. As someone once wrote about Perlon: „[…]smooth, complex, rhythmically sophisticated and clearly mind-bending. All attributes that can also always be found in the DJ sets of Zip[…]“
Now, he finally makes his debut at Blitz Club, joined by Barbara Preisinger, a former Munich local and Ultraschall regular. She began DJing in the mid-’90s in the club’s Flokati Room, playing „pretty weird experimental and ambient tunes in the chill-out area“. After relocating to Berlin, she worked with artists & labels from the experimental scene before co-founding her first imprint ˜scape alongside Pole, and later launching Slices of Life in 2009: dedicated to „deep, warm-sounding, funky and diverse club music.“ and her Deep In The Box events have since become moved around venues such as CDV & Tresor’s Globus Floor.
Rounding out the night is our friend Sumi from Vienna. „playing House! In all its facets!“ is how he once summed up his approach, and we’re delighted to have the member of the LHF squad adding the final touches to tonight’s programme.
