We brim with passion for every night at Blitz and try our best not to get carried away and boast too much about our guests. But tonight, we’re excited to welcome back a true legend of dance music at Blitz. It’s Moodymann! He’s an artist at core. Feared by interviewers, loved by dancers and music lovers alike. It’s not hard to see why.
We at Blitz work hard to bring you the most exciting and interesting artists to make you dance, but there’s few people on earth who have understood the groove as well as Kenny Dixon Jr.
We dare to say he must’ve been baptized by funk. Thick basslines and classic soul- and jazz samples and a reluctancy to engage in the contemporary dance music scene’s race for higher tempos and heavier sounds, characterise his sound and attitude. He’s a traditionalist, a conservative in the best of ways. He‘s a keeper of the flame. Rooted in the traditions that his music grew upon, soul music, roller disco, the black church, all with the rhythms firmly tied to disco’s characteristic laid-back grooves. Playful and sensual music that’s well schooled about it’s origins. We’re in love.
It comes as no surprise why Flo Real is part of Moodymann’s Mahogani Music family. She‘s not just a mindful, expert selector with dextrous fingers on the decks when it comes to House, Disco & Funk, but she feels and knows the groove and soul inside out. Aber heute kann man es kaum anders sagen: Wir freuen uns auf eine lebende Legende: Moodymann! Er ist ein Künstler durch und durch und lässt die Musik, nicht Worte für sich sprechen. Und ist dafür von Journalist*innen gefürchtet, von Tänzer*innen und Musikliebhaber*innen geliebt
Es gibt nur wenige Menschen auf der Welt, die den Groove so gut verstanden haben wie Kenny Dixon Jr.
Ist er vom Funk persönlich getauft worden? Gut möglich. Dicke Bässe, klassische Soul- und Jazz-Samples und eine Resistenz gegen den Wettlauf um höhere Tempi und härtere Sounds kennzeichnen seinen Sound und seine Einstellung. Er ist ein Traditionalist, ein Konservativer im besten Sinne, denn er hält den Spirit am Leben. Er ist fest verwurzelt in den Traditionen, auf denen seine Musik baut: Soul, Roller Disco, die Schwarze, afroamerikanische Kirche, und das alles mit einem Groove, der fest mit den charakteristischen Laid-Back Rhythmus der Disco connected ist.
