Club culture is more than just a random space for escaping reality. It has always been a place in which social and aesthetics identities and positions can be joyfully transgressed and experimented with, all within the framework of a safe space. Blitz is a proud ambassador of this stance and attitude. And with the kick-off of our new, audiovisual concert series Blitz Live, we are now diving even deeper into the undiscovered depths of this scene. With a statement against the club monoculture and the supposedly purely functional core business of techno & escapism. With a strong statement for the artistic, but also social diversity within club culture. The collaboration with the renowned experimental music label Raster will be a special focus of the series, alongside other prestigious formats such as the comeback and tenth anniversary of the Ritournelle Festival on 21 and 22 October.

We are extremely pleased to present Atom™, an exceptional artist from the ranks of the Raster label, to kick off our new series of events. Uwe Schmidt has lived through pretty much every phase of techno history and has always been producing groundbreaking electronic music between pop, techno and experimental under countless pseudonyms. Music for the dancefloor as well as for home studies, with an awareness of the avant-garde, but also humour. The claim to his label Rather Interesting, founded in 1994, represents his entire oeuvre: It stands for electronic music that won’t follow the traditional paths. He will present us with new music as part of the new A/V live show >Neuer Mensch< that crosses borders both sonically and visually.

The live performance will sit between an equally forward-thinking, yet club orientated line-up. The Blitz debut of Berlin based and Raster affiliated sound artist and DJ, Mieko Suzuki, will kickstart the evening, right before Atom™ takes the stage. With a steady hand, she develops bold, dizzying sets of abstract rhythms and sounds and puts our listening habits, as well as the musical material, to a sensual test. It’s easy to see why she is at home in clubs like Berghain or the Leipzig’s Institut für Zukunft, but also stages like the CTM Festival and even the Elbphilharmonie. We’re sure you’ll already have an inkling of why we keep inviting Bjarki back to Blitz so often: the Icelandic techno futurist has already sent us into ecstasy several times with his unmistakable play of hyperplastic textures and breakneck grooves between IDM, techno & breakbeat. And last but not least: our good friend Tobias Staab aka La Staab proves to be the final puzzle piece tonight. He’s the co-curator of our Blitz–Live series and a skilled architect of captivating, unorthodox techno-mixes behind the booth. Get ready for a whole evening of infectious sounds, pushing the envelope and challenging your dancing feet and perception of dance music.

Klubkultur – inzwischen auch als Begriff im Duden angekommen! – ist mehr als nur ein beliebiger Raum für Realitätsflucht, denn es ist immer auch ein Raum, in dem soziale, aber auch ästhetische Identitäten und Positionen überschritten werden können, mit ihnen gespielt und experimentiert werden kann, im Rahmen eines Safespace. Das Blitz versteht sich als Träger und Teil einer solchen Kultur. Und mit dem Kick-Off unserer neuen, audiovisuellen Konzertreihe Blitz Live tauchen wir nun, noch tiefer in die unentdeckten Zwischenräume dieser Szene ab. Mit einem Zeichen gegen die Klub-Monokultur und das vermeintlich rein funktionale Kerngeschäft von Techno & Eskapismus. Mit einem Zeichen für die künstlerische, aber auch soziale Vielfalt der Klubwelt. Die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Label Raster für experimentelle elektronische Musik, aber auch viele weitere, (audio-)visuelle künstlerische Formate wird einen besonderen Schwerpunkt der Reihe bilden, neben Formaten wie dem Comeback und zehnjährigen Jubiläum des Ritournelle-Festivals am 21. und 22. Oktober.

Wir freuen uns außerordentlich, mit Atom™ einen Ausnahmekünstler aus dem Hause Raster zum Auftakt der Reihe zu präsentieren. Uwe Schmidt hat so ziemlich jede Phase der Techno-Geschichte durchlebt und unter schier unzähligen Pseudonymen stets wegweisende, elektronische Musik zwischen Pop, Experiment & Techno produziert. Musik für den Dancefloor als auch das Studium zu Hause, mit Bewusstsein für die Avantgarde, aber auch den Humor. Das Ziel seines 1994 gegründeten Labels Rather Interesting steht dabei stellvertretend für sein gesamtes Schaffen: Es steht für elektronische Musik abseits der traditionellen Wege. Er wird uns eine neue, klanglich wie visuell grenzüberschreitende A/V Live-Show mit dem Titel >Neuer Mensch< und neuer, noch unveröffentlichter Musik präsentieren.

Die Liveperformance wird von einem mindestens ebenso zukunftsweisendem, cluborientierten Lineup umgarnt. Direkt zum Auftakt des Abends, vor Atom™: das Blitz-Debüt der ebenfalls auf Raster beheimateten Berliner Klangkünstlerin und DJ, Mieko Suzuki. Mit ruhiger Hand entwickelte sie kühne, schwindelerregende Sets aus abstrakten Rhythmen und Klängen und stellt unsere Hörgewohnheiten, aber auch das musikalische Material vor eine sinnliche Zerreißprobe. Nicht umsonst ist sie in Clubs wie dem Berghain oder dem Institut für Zukunft, aber auch Bühnen wie dem CTM-Festival und der Elbphilharmonie gleichermaßen beheimatet. Zur Peaktime freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen mit Bjarki, dem isländischen Techno-Futuristen, der uns mit seinem unverwechselbaren Spiel aus hyperplastischen Texturen und halsbrecherischen Rhythmen zwischen IDM, Techno & Breakbeat schon mehrfach in Ekstase versetzt hat.

Und last but not least: Unser guter Freund Tobias Staab alias La Staab ist integraler Teil des Geschehens, seines Zeichens Co-Kurator der Blitz–Live Serie. Und am DJ-Pult Architekt unorthodoxer, fesselnder Techno-Mixes.
