From Michigan City to Munich, Cloakroom and Hallway unite under the Corechaos banner to explore the heavier and tender limits of Shoegaze and Midwestemo, alongside the universality of coming-of-age and teenage angst sentiments at Blitz.
Over the course of their latest albums, Cloakroom has refined the heavy machinery approach of their early stoner and doom-gaze-laden releases into a more nuanced, song-focused brand of dreamy and heavy space rock that underlines their Midwest-Emo influences stronger than ever before. Few bands embrace and seize Midwest Emo’s bittersweet tenderness and heavy music’s grinding impact better than Cloakroom.
It may seem like a big leap from the three Northwest Indiana, Rust Belt-based factory workers of Cloakroom to the delicate late-teens of Hallway in the picturesque and formerly royal city of Munich, but they’re both united by a bittersweet sense of spacious, shoegaze, and Midwest-Emo-inspired songwriting. The young six-piece might just be Munich’s most exciting new talents from the thrilling New Basement cosmos, with delicate vocals, skilled songwriting, tasteful influences, and a healthy DIY approach — a beautiful and tender contrast to Cloakroom’s subterranean, weighty, and haze-indebted drift.

Von Michigan City bis München erforschen Bands die Schnittstelle von Shoegaze, Midwestemo und den dazugehörigen Gefühlen von Teenage Angst sowie Coming-Of-Age-Themen. CoreChaos präsentiert mit den jungen Münchner Senkrechtstartern Hallway und der renommierten amerikanischen Band Cloakroom gleich zwei dieser Bands im Blitz Club!
Im Verlauf ihrer Karriere haben Cloakroom den wuchtigen Ansatz ihrer frühen Stoner- und Doom-Gaze-beladenen Veröffentlichungen in eine nuanciertere, songorientierte Form von träumerischem und schwerem Spacerock & Shoegaze verfeinert, die ihre Midwest-Emo-Einflüsse stärker betont als je zuvor. Wenige Bands schlagen den Spagat zwischen der bittersüßen Zärtlichkeit des Midwest Emo, der drückenden Wucht des Stonerrock und den sphärischen Klangwelten des Shoegaze besser als Cloakroom!
Es mag wie ein großer Sprung von den drei in Nordwest-Indiana ansässigen Fabrikarbeitern von Cloakroom zu den lieblichen Spätteens von Hallway aus der Residenzstadt München erscheinen, aber beide eint eine Vorliebe für nostalgische Gefühle und weitläufiges, shoegaze- und Midwest-Emo-inspiriertes Songwriting. Die sechsköpfige Band gehört aktuell zu den aufregendsten neuen Bands und stammen aus dem umtriebigen New Basement Kosmos. Mit zarten Vocals, gewieftem Songwriting und einem gesunden DIY-Ansatz stellen sie einen bezaubernden Kontrast zu Cloakrooms erdigem und vernebeltem Treiben dar.
