Ben UFO really is one of those DJs that make you wonder just how he does it all. That make you wanna take a proverbial look at just what happens in the booth. An artist that made his fame and name solely as a DJ, without the big production tags. His take on music and DJing is broad, but nevertheless decidedly UK-funky, it’s just as much heady crate- digging smart as giddy, riotous fun united by the rare Midas touch on the decks.
His extraordinary taste is also well displayed in his work as a third of the highly exciting contemporary dance music label Hessle Audio that (just as Ben UFO) started out with early Dubstep releases to and to their now state-of-the-art house, techno and jungle-fusion brand. You’d be utterly daft to skip Ben’s extended opening set tonight, that’s going to cover house, techno, jungle and bass at the very least, if not the whole musical stratosphere, with singular mixing skills on the turntables and mixer.
Laurent Garnier’s pivotal legacy, that started out as one of the key figures of the UK’s acid house boom in the 80ies is well documented, his sheer eternal curiosity for music yet always to be highlighted. He’s recently been flexing his muscles on production again, scoring film soundtracks and gearing up for a new and upcoming album release in 2023. First excerpts have appeared on his latest 33T.E.P.S.V EP and prove that Laurent’s skills for potent and strident tech-house are as vital as ever, but you’d better not jump conclusions concerning the musical direction of his set: Laurent Garnier draws from decades of experiences and a wide-ranging taste (and love) of music, making him a must-see time after time. Ex-Münchnerin and Permanent Vacation affiliate Rosa Red has been gracing our dance floor increasingly over the past few months. The ever- creative mind is stepping up her game with every set she plays, pitches a wide range of stylised as well as organic house-adjacent sounds with cool and confidence. A beguiling concoction of physical funk, seductive, dub- informed soundscapes and jaunty melodies.

Ben Ufo ist einer dieser DJs, die einen staunen und aufhorchen lassen und direkt an die Booth fesseln: Man kann kaum anders als wissen und sehen zu wollen, wie all die Klänge und Tracks verarbeitet werden. Bei solchen versierten Skills an Mischpult und Turntables braucht es auch keine Produzenten- und Remixer-Credits, um in der Szene als Koryphäe zu gelten. Sein Horizont als DJ ist breit gefächert, seine Perspektive auf den Groove aber dezidiert UK-funky und er überzeugt gleichermaßen als nerdiger Crate-Digger wie auch als eskalative Party-Granate. Von seinem formidablen Musikgespür profitiert auch das geschätzte Label Hessle Audio, welches Ben Ufo neben Pearson Sound and Pangaea betreibt. Ben und das Label haben dabei eine ähnliche Entwicklung hingelegt: was mit Dubstep der frühen Stunde begann, hat sich heute zu einer mitreißenden und fein kuratierten Mischung aus House, Jungle und Techno entwickelt. Be there or be square, wer sich Ben UFO’s extended Opening Set heute Abend ohne entgehen lässt, dem ist nicht zu helfen.

Erste Ausschnitte dieser Platte sind bereits auf seiner kürzlich auf seiner aktuellen 33T.E.P.S.V EP erschienen und unterstreichen seine Fähigkeiten als Spezialisten für kraftvolle Tech-House Tools, aber wir raten euch, daraus keine voreiligen Schlüsse für sein kommendes Set bei uns zu ziehen: Laurent Garniers weitreichendes Repertoire umfasst mehrere Jahrzehnte und mehr Stile als ihr euch vorstellen könntet, was ein jedes seiner Sets zum Must-See macht.
