Patrick Mason qualifies as a techno purists nightmare and that makes him all the more interesting: a true personality that doesn’t hold back or does half measures. Much more than a DJ, he’s a multidisciplinary artist whose wide ranging skills and perspectives as a performer, designer and creative director with an eccentric personality help him to develop a subversive and devise approach to electronic dance music. He’s got a well acquired taste in recent as well as present clubmusic, that’s aware of it’s Detroit Techno and New-York House roots, yet blends it with wild, nearly even flashy edits of Pop & Trance. Skilfully executed, blunt and in your face dance music that know about it’s polarizing potential and uses it to full effect. The result: an utterly strong, highly personal brew that add a unique twist on clubmusic. Undeniably cool, you love or you hate it, and that’s what we admire about Patrick Mason’s approach.
Mohajer is one of the Kopenhagen based Fast Forward’s gangs newest members and plays state-of-the-art techno with strong contemporary Scandinavian influence: fast and sleek, stylized and decidedly nocturnal in muted sounds and colours with influences from trance and well select doses of pop and hip- hop. Mit Patrick Mason haben wir einen polarisierenden Künstler im besten Sinne eingeladen. Man kann ihn als Albtraum festgefahrener Techno-Puristen lesen und ist eine exzentrische Künstlerpersönlichkeit, die keine halben Sachen macht. Neben seinem Wirken als DJ ist er auch als Performer, Designer und Creative Director für verschiedenste Unterfangen aktiv und diese vielen Blickwinkel helfen ihm, eine frische und subversive Perspektive auf die elektronische Tanzmusik zu entwickeln. Patrick Mason besticht freilich auch mit einem stilsicheren Gespür für all die zeitgenössischen Trends und Strömungen und ist auch bestens über deren Geschichte in Form des Detroit-Techno oder der New-Yorker House-Szene informiert, aber kontrastiert diese Sounds mit gewagten, beinahe grellen Edits aus Pop & Trance. Mit Fingerspitzengefühl spielt er unverblümte Sets, die sich ihrer Wirkung bestens bewusst sind und gelungen mit ihr spielen. Das Ergebnis: ein eigenwilliger, aber unverwechselbar Stil mit ganz eigenem Zugang zu dem, was wir heute Clubmusik nennen. Patrick Mason strotzt vor Coolness und Selbstvertrauen und lässt niemanden kalt: You Love him or you hate him und das schätzen wir an ihm!
