Brainwaltzera – Poly-Ana (Before The Party Starts: 16/06/18)

„To be honest I slept on this until I heard the first track of the album played by upsammy (who by the way is an amazing DJ you should definitely check out) at Robert Johnson a few months back. It completely blew me away so I had to ask what it is. I instantly checked if it’s still available and was surprised that most retailers still had it on stock. Apparently I was not the only one sleeping on it, hahaha. I purchased one copy straight and another one a few weeks later when i stumbled across it again during some casual record shopping at Vary in Leipzig. Since then I listened to it uncountable times and it still grows on me with every spin i give it. Some guy who reviewed it on his blog found the right words: „I’ve listened to this tonnes – to work out if I really love it as much as I think I do. And I do. It surpasses its hype. How many records in this vein peter out and chase their own tails into some kind of beatless abstract AMBIENT finale? This one does the opposite – as it progresses it gets wonkier, more aggressive and opens up its own sound palette. By the end you start thinking this guy has it all. How can „Triangulate Dither Night“ be the last track on side C of an album that begins as it does? (sort of Boards Of Canada re-imagined by a speeding RDJ) – this is why it’s a must have. And listen to the last track: is this the strongest last section of any album in recent memory?“

Groove premiers David Goldberg’s EMO Serialism

Since ten years David Goldberg has been composing and writing music within the electronic spectrum. As part of the bustling SVS collective and also doing his studies of conceptual art and sculpting at the academy of fine arts, he’s always been moving beyond borders and disciplines. His current release EMO Serialism on Molten Moods just got premiered via Groove Magazine yesterday and got some marvelous reviews via XLR8R, Inverted Audio and more, e.g. calling it “solar IDM, breaks-strewn riddims and bleached-out bleepy techno on a cosmic tip”. BAM!

Check out our second BLITZ listen! podcast

Once again, we hung out at BLITZ club during the week and listened to our favourite music together. And yeah, this session was definitely one to be shared!

Have fun listening to our second podcast with music selected by Julietta, Lara, Muallem, Roland Appel, Skee Mask and Stenny.

There’s no real concept, just a bunch of friends hanging out and listening to some quality tunes with loads of stupid jokes, booze & fun!

Blitz resident crew and friends x

Viel Spaß beim Hören unseres zweiten Podcasts, selected by Julietta, Lara, Muallem, Roland Appel, Skee Mask und Stenny.

Daniel Brandt & Eternal Something Live – 11/10/18

In March 2017, Daniel Brandt, co-founder of  Germany’s electro-acoustic ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, released his solo debut album “Eternal Something” on Erased Tapes.
What has started as a simple idea in the Taunus region, in his father’s forest hut – equipped with some drum cymbals – finally became much more complex than imagined; it eventually turned into a trip to Joshua Tree National Park in California and a car full of guitars, resulting in Daniel’s first solo album.
An album that embodies the idea that, albeit starting with a specific idea, external influences and environments always drive the process forward and create an “Eternal Something”. The musician, who lives in Berlin and London, recorded all the instruments himself, with the exception of trombone (Florian Juncker), hang drum (Manu Delago) and cello (Andreas Voss).
Accompanying the album, Daniel made a film out of hundreds of Youtube videos to create kind of a modern day gritty found footage Koyaanisqatsi. Watch the full film below.

Laurie Spiegel – The Expanding Universe (Before The Party Starts: 08/06/18)

Laurie Spiegel is a composer from my home city Chicago. For years, her pioneering work on the GROOVE synthesizer went largely unheard. In 2012, these works were included on a 2-cd edition of The Expanding Universe (1973-8). It contains over 2½ hours of music created at Bell Telephone Labs during the 1970s. This album includes the first realization of Harmonices Mundi, Johannes Kapler’s purely conceptual composition of planetary motion (1619). It was chosen for the opening track on the “Sounds of Earth” section of the golden record placed on board the Voyager Spacecraft in 1977. The Expanding Universe is one of my favorite records to listen to with friends and has been the soundtrack to many quiet moments of reflection, confrontation with the Other and love. It will be a perfect evocation before the ecstatic chaos I intend to conjure behind the decks at.

Johannes Mergarten live – 09/06/18

It wasn’t until he turned 21 that Berlin’s piano newcomer Johannes Mergarten found his destiny in playing piano. After an intense period of jazz studies in Munich, a desire to immerse himself in Berlin’s rich music scene initiated a move to Neukölln. Within months he met Martyn Heyne of Lichte Studio – who had previously worked with artists such as Nils Frahm and Lubomyr Melnyk – and soon the recording of his debut album was underway. Johannes Mergarten became the latest signing to the Berlin based underground Label “Lenient Tales”.

Watch excerpts from his concert at Villa Neukölln in January below.

154 – Strike (Before The Party Starts: 01/06/18)

„Simply one of my favorite techno albums. The incredible sensibility and equilibrium between harmony and pulsating drum patterns, makes Strike a record capable to guide you through a really immersive journey. A true masterpiece!“
