We’re excited to welcome World League with Chris Liebing and Steve Bug at Blitz this weekend. They will be joined by Munich house ambassador René Vaitl and our local heroes Glaskin.
Chris doesn’t need any introduction, being one of techno’s figureheads per se. Whether with his innovative techno label CLR (Create-Learn-Realize), as Berghain regular, or simply with his powerful basslines; hardly anyone brings so much drive into the scene.
Steve Bug, who plays at our PLUS Floor, has written club music history with his Poker Flat label. He’ll also be bringing along his new album “Paradise Sold”, which he has produced with Max Heesen alias Langenberg. Reflecting deep and dubby aesthetics, its tracks like “A Touch of Detroit” or “NGC 6240” are already on heavy rotation in clubs around the globe.

Zu Chris selbst braucht es nicht viele Erklärungen, denn in Sachen Techno ist er einer der Hausnummern schlechthin. Shortly before Maceo Plex visits us at Blitz this week, Miami born artist delivered a formidable new mix for the fabric compilation series. Starting his career as a DJ in 1993 with house and Detroit techno, his present day style rather tends towards deep opaque bass lines and lush soundscapes. The mix jaunts through deep electro, new wave and techno before fading out smoothly, encompassing exclusives by the likes of Voiski, Iron Curtain, North Lake and Maceo aka Mariel Ito himself. Kurz bevor Maceo Plex uns diese Woche in Blitz beehrt, hat der in Miami geborene Künstler einen erstklassigen neuen Mix für die Fabric-Compilation-Reihe abgeliefert. Frameworks Festival established itself as platform for new musical positions on the border between structure and abstraction. It aims to offer artists from different European subcultures a space to pursue unconventional and innovative ways of independent music. We look forward to exploring the boundaries of pop and abstract music on our handcrafted VOID sound system for three days.

Starting off will be young composer and pianist Carlos Cipa in collaboration with Munich’s bustling live electro act Occupanther, followed by boundary-pushing beatmaker Kutmah, who releases on labels like Big Dada, Brownswood and Technicolour. On Thursday we will continue with Cairo avant-garde musician Nadah El Shazly and the German premiere of trance/psych/electro duo NPVR, featuring Editions Mego founder Peter Rehberg and Nick Void of DFA’s Factory Floor. The grande finale on Friday sees the Viennese band Radian returning to Franeworks, alongside electro-noise project Die Angel, run by Schneider TM and lpo Väisänen from Pan Sonic.

Das Frameworks Festival versteht sich als Plattform neuer musikalischer Positionen in den Grenzbereichen zwischen Struktur und abstrakter Komposition. Es möchte Künstlerinnen und Künstlern aus unterschiedlichen europäischen Subkulturen Raum bieten, unkonventionelle und innovative Wege unabhängiger Musik zu verfolgen. Wir freuen uns, drei Abende lang die Grenzen von Pop und abstrakter Musik auf unserer maßgeschneiderten VOID-Soundsystem ausloten zu dürfen.

Psychedelic Pop from the late 60’s – an album that I haven’t heard in it’s entirety yet, I just found it in Freiburg last week, but I’ve listened to the 3 albums after this one and I loved them…I’m curious myself for ‘Part One.

Renowned for her imaginative, poetic style and clear installation concepts, she has been putting on shows at numerous specialized festivals, exhibitions and events, locally and internationally. She combines excellent technical skills with her many years of experience as a club visual artist, as well as being part of the female avant-garde of digital art and visualization. Her work always captivates with its high-quality aesthetics and playful use of materials, light and space.

The light and sound installation “white circle” has been created in 2016 for the 20th anniversary of the electronic music label Raster-Noton. It consists of a walkable ring of fluorescent tubes, which react individually to musical impulses and illuminate the room. Five specially created compositions by alva noto, Byetone, Frank Bretschneider and Kangding Ray will be looped for about 45 minutes, defining the relationship between sound, light and architecture in different ways. Read more and win tickets at Zündfunk.

„white circle“ ist eine Licht- und Sound-Installation, die 2016 zum zwanzigjährigen Jubiläum des Labels für elektronische Musik Raster-Noton entstanden ist. Bereits seit seiner Teenagerzeit ist der Glasgower DJ und Numbers-Mitbegründer Jackmaster im elektronischen Underground involviert. Hinter dem Tresen und an den Crates des legendären Rubadub Plattenladen, begründeten sich seine Labels Dress 2 Sweat, Wireblock – und 2010 die famose Numbers- Marke, mit der unter anderem Musik von Deadboy, Roska, Jamie xx, Rustie, Doc Daneeka and Sophie veröffentlicht wurden. Egal ob als Label, Partyreihe oder Collective, Numbers gilt als feste Glasgower Musik-Institution, und allen voran auch Jackmaster mit seinem energiegeladenen und verspielten DJ-Style. Mit seinen Sets, als auch mit seiner aktuellen Mastermix-Eventreihe, deckt er eine Vielzahl an Genres ab, von Techno bis hin zu Electro, House, R&B und Disco.

With his latest album “Daemmerlicht”, Berlin’s Lorenz Brunner alias Recondite treaded new paths. Released on his own Plangent Records label earlier this year, he dives into ambient, downbeat, electronica, instrumental hiphop and classical music – in a very remarkable way. The two acclaimed “Daemmerlicht” shows at Berghain’s Säule within the CTM Festival sold out immediately and showed the producer’s full artistry. In the meantime, the Rottal-Inn native spreads his live techno wizardry throughout South America, Tale of Us’ Afterlife series and the Great Wall, while keeping up with a constant stream of quality remixes and own releases. We’re excited to hosting one of his enthralling live sets on Monday, alongside expert DJ mixes from Berlin techno veteran Efdemin and our resident luminary Roland Appel.

Der Longplayer kam Anfang des Jahres auf seinem eigenen Plangent Records-Label heraus, und besticht durch Soundscapes, Downbeats und Ambient mit teils klassischer Instrumentierung. Die beiden gefeierten “Daemmerlicht” -Shows in Berghain’s Säule im Rahmen des CTM-Festivals waren sofort ausverkauft und zeigten die volle Artistik des Produzenten. Damit hat er es zurecht auf den Titel der aktuellen Groove-Ausgabe geschafft, mitsamt dem vortrefflichen Podcast-Mix, den es unten zu hören gibt.

Unterdessen bespielt der gebürtige Rottal-Inner die mit seinen live Techno-Sets die Bühnen in Südamerika, bei Tale of Us’ Afterlife-Reihe und an der Chinesischen Mauer, während er konstant an seinen famosen Remixen und Releases schraubt. Wir freuen uns auf eines seiner packenden Live-Shows am Montag, nebst DJ-Sets von der Berliner Techno-Institution Efdemin und unserem Resident Roland Appel.

“I chose the Biorhythm 1 CD from Network Records, it was originally released in 1990 and listening to it now brings back memories of growing up in Sheffield, visiting Warp Records when they had a physical store on Division Street. The whole ‘bleep’ movement sat comfortably in-between house and techno and the increasingly predictable nature of the two. Listening to the CD now, it still sounds like the future…dystopian and bleak but still very very funky and well produced, it was a magic time in the history of electronic music.”
