Recondite – 30/04/18

With his latest album “Daemmerlicht”, Berlin’s Lorenz Brunner alias Recondite treaded new paths. Released on his own Plangent Records label earlier this year, he dives into ambient, downbeat, electronica, instrumental hiphop and classical music – in a very remarkable way. The two acclaimed “Daemmerlicht” shows at Berghain’s Säule within the CTM Festival sold out immediately and showed the producer’s full artistry. In the meantime, the Rottal-Inn native spreads his live techno wizardry throughout South America, Tale of Us’ Afterlife series and the Great Wall, while keeping up with a constant stream of quality remixes and own releases. We’re excited to hosting one of his enthralling live sets on Monday, alongside expert DJ mixes from Berlin techno veteran Efdemin and our resident luminary Roland Appel.

Mit seinem jüngsten Album “Daemmerlicht” beschreitet der Berliner Lorenz Brunner alias Recondite neue Wege. Der Longplayer kam Anfang des Jahres auf seinem eigenen Plangent Records-Label heraus, und besticht durch Soundscapes, Downbeats und Ambient mit teils klassischer Instrumentierung. Die beiden gefeierten “Daemmerlicht” -Shows in Berghain’s Säule im Rahmen des CTM-Festivals waren sofort ausverkauft und zeigten die volle Artistik des Produzenten. Damit hat er es zurecht auf den Titel der aktuellen Groove-Ausgabe geschafft, mitsamt dem vortrefflichen Podcast-Mix, den es unten zu hören gibt.

Unterdessen bespielt der gebürtige Rottal-Inner die mit seinen live Techno-Sets die Bühnen in Südamerika, bei Tale of Us’ Afterlife-Reihe und an der Chinesischen Mauer, während er konstant an seinen famosen Remixen und Releases schraubt. Wir freuen uns auf eines seiner packenden Live-Shows am Montag, nebst DJ-Sets von der Berliner Techno-Institution Efdemin und unserem Resident Roland Appel.

Bio Rhythm – “Dance Music With Bleeps” (Before The Party Starts: 28/04/18)

“I chose the Biorhythm 1 CD from Network Records, it was originally released in 1990 and listening to it now brings back memories of growing up in Sheffield, visiting Warp Records when they had a physical store on Division Street. The whole ‘bleep’ movement sat comfortably in-between house and techno and the increasingly predictable nature of the two. Listening to the CD now, it still sounds like the future…dystopian and bleak but still very very funky and well produced, it was a magic time in the history of electronic music.”

Carl Craig ‎– More Songs About Food And Revolutionary Art (Before The Party Starts: 27/04/18)

In my opinion, one of the greatest records from Detroit. Timeless, deep and revolutionary, it comes from the time when men became one with technology. Carl’s emotions are perfectly transcribed by the machines, and this album is probably the reason which pushed many producers to make electronic music in a deep, sincere and soulful manner. I think after this album people realised that you could make electronic music by yourself as an art, allowing to express the deepest side of you. From that moment on, everybody knew what is pure electronic music made from the soul.

Schall im Schilf brings Mano Le Tough, Gerd Janson and more to Garching

With this year’s festival season already being in full swing, Kellerkind’s Schall im Schilf is just around the corner. At the end of July, the grounds at Garchinger see once again will transform into a musical elysium, hosting an nicely balanced mix of deep house, techno, disco and some finest beatmakers. Expect the likes of Mano Le Tough, Gerd Janson, Betty Ford Boys, Tereza, Red Axes, Scuba, Or: la, Glaskin and Bluestaeb amongst others, as well as splendid visuals from El Movimiento, Studio Polygon and more. DVS1 – 28/04/18

Immersed in the heydays of the ’90s Midwest rave scene, DVS1 has gained a highly-respected reputation for his versatile skills, infectious energy and physical power behind the decks. As a resident DJ of Berlin’s infamous Berghain / Panorama Bar, he moves floors from Hong Kong to São Paulo, Tel Aviv and beyond.

After dropping his first original releases on Klockworks and Transmat, he started putting up his own imprints, HUSH and Mistress Recordings. Showcasing rather deep, purist techno on one hand, while reflecting wider ranges in beat and rhythm with the other, DVS1 touches all corners of the dance floor. Just check out his excellent Fabric 96 mix from last year, which emphazises his reputation as a true bastion of underground culture.

Tief verwurzelt in der Blütezeit der Rave-Szene des Mittleren Westens der 90er Jahre, hat sich DVS1 einen ausgezeichneten Ruf für seine vielseitigen Fähigkeiten, ansteckende Energie und kraftvolle Präsenz hinter den Decks erarbeitet. Nebst seiner Residency im Berghain/Panorama Bar, bespielt er fortwährend die Vorzeige-Clubs von Hong Kong über São Paulo bis Tel Aviv und darüber hinaus.

Nach seinen ersten Releases auf Klockworks und Transmat Ende der Nullerjahre, begann er seine eigenen Labels, HUSH und Mistress Recordings, aufzuziehen. Auf Ersterem zeigt DVS1 eher tiefen, puristischen Techno, während mit Letzterem ein breiterer Beat- und Rhytmus-Bereich abgedeckt wird. Die ganze Bandbreite lässt sich beim exzellenten Fabric 96 Mix aus dem letzten Jahr an ersehen, mit dem er seinem Ruf als Underground-Institution nochmal eindrücklich unterstrichen hat.

Charles Mingus ‎– Mingus Ah Um (Before The Party Starts: 20/04/18)

“Outside of being one of Mingus most known works, this original pressing from my collection is one of the best recorded pieces of music I have ever heard. The sound dynamic heard in this record really emphizes how the recording process in the late 50s was so much more exception then today and the loudness war that consume most of the recording process today in comparison to loudness wars that consumes the modern recording process and ideology. Louder is not better kids. It’s about dynamic and this record is a Paramount example of this idea.”

Modeselektion line-up announced – 30/06/18

It’s happening again! Berlin’s techno behemoths Modeselektor announced the long-awaited fourth Modeselektion compilation. Of course again packed with an extra amount of mind-bending bangers and dance floor weapons by famed club circuit luminaries as well as up-and-coming artists. See the full tracklist and hear the first tunes below. Along with the compilation release on the duo’s Monkeytown imprint on June 1st (grab it <here>), they’ll be going on tour across Europe’s raddest nightclubs and festival stages.

At the Munich tour leg, get yourself prepared for live techno wizardry by Fadi Mohem, shapeshifting bangers from Ilian Tape’s Zenker Brothers and Skee Mask, as well as euphoric flavours from Kasper Marott, weighty bass styles from Sarah Farina, bustling live electronics from Solid Blake, and of course one of the notorious DJ sets of the boss men Modeselektor themselves.

Es ist endlich wieder soweit! Die Berliner Hometown Heroes Modeselektor bringen ihre längst überfällige, vierte Modeselektion-Compilation an den Start. Natürlich ausgerüstet mit einer Extraportion an krassen Bangern und Tanzflächen-Tools von bewährten Club-Koryphäen und soliden Durchstartern. Die Tracklist und erste Hörbeispiele gibt’s weiter unten. Lotic unveils his debut album ‘Power’ – 05/05/18

Houston-born and Berlin-based producer J’Kerian Morgan alias Lotic has unveiled his debut album Power, out this summer via Tri Angle. Today you can hear the first single ‘Hunted’, which marks the first time the producer sings. Read more on FACTMag.com.

Leaving his mark as some kind of secret superstar of Berlin’s queer underground, Lotic virtually championed the Janus parties at Berghain and Trade parties at Ohm with his unconventional DJ style. In a reference spectrum between Arca, Autechre and Beyoncé, Lotic seeks out the ambivalences between abstract IDM rhythms, popping R&B glitches and bursting textures, with an immersive drive to trigger a collective hysteria. First time in Munich!

Pantha du Prince – 05/05/2018

Berlin-based producer, composer and conceptual artist Henrik Weber, aka Pantha du Prince, constitutes an exceptional phenomenon in the electronic music scene. Besides his dark and trembling bass creations and soundscapes, the techno shaman keeps exploring the sonic textures of different materials. After making himself a name in the international club circuit with own releases and remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Philipp Glass and Animal Collective, he expanded his electronically created sound repertoire by including real bells. His “Pantha du Prince and the Bell Laboratory” project even made use of a specially developed two-tons Carillon, around which Henrik gathered an ensemble of Norwegian percussionists. On the basis of techno arises an overtone-laden sacred sound, which opened a new field of tension between club and church. At Panta Rhei, Pantha du Prince performs together with Norwegian percussionist Bendik Hovik Kjeldsberg (formerly part of the “Bell Laboratory”). Together they’ll be presenting unpublished pieces between techno and new music, inviting you on a journey into the light.

Der in Berlin lebende Künstler Hendrik Weber, besser bekannt unter dem Pseudonym Pantha du Prince, ist ein Sonderling im Bereich der elektronischen Clubmusik. Neben dunkel wummernden Basslines und digitale Texturen untersucht der Techno-Schamane Weber auch immer wieder die Klanglichkeit bestimmter Materialien. Nachdem er mit Remixen für Depeche Mode, Philipp Glass und Animal Collective binnen weniger Jahre zu einem Star der internationalen Clubszene avanciert war, erweiterte er sein elektronisch erzeugtes Klangrepertoire um Klänge wirklicher Glocken. Im Rahmen seines Projektes „Pantha du Prince and the Bell Laboratory“, bei dem auch ein eigens dafür entwickeltes zwei Tonnen schweres Carillon zum Einsatz kam, versammelte er ein Ensemble norwegischer Perkussionisten um sich. Auf der Basis von Techno entstand auf diese Weise eine obertonschwangere Sakralmusik, die ein neues Spannungsfeld zwischen Club und Messe eröffnete. Bei Panta Rhei tritt Pantha du Prince gemeinsam als Duo mit dem norwegischen Perkussionisten Bendik Hovik Kjeldsberg (ehemals Teil des „Bell Laboratory“) auf. Die beiden präsentieren unveröffentlichte Stücke zwischen Techno und Neuer Musik und laden ein zu einer Reise ins Licht.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood ‎– Welcome To The Pleasuredome (Before the party starts: 14/04/18)

We’ve been listening to ‘Welcome To The Pleasuredome’ at home all the time. My mother originally got it from her cousin in West Germany. When I left home she gave it to me alongside other records. When I play “Welcome To The Pleasuredome” or “The Power Of Love” today I instantly reconnect to these memories, feel like the 6-years old Marcel again.
